One room stays colder than the rest: what to document

Record room conditions, timing, thermostat settings and visible airflow concerns so an uneven-heating assessment starts with a clear pattern.

One cold room does not automatically mean the heating equipment needs replacement. Record the room's pattern compared with the rest of the home, then arrange an assessment that considers the actual system and space.

Make the comparison useful

Note when the difference is noticeable, the thermostat setting and whether doors are usually open or closed. Include recent renovations or changes to room use. Record visible obstructions at accessible outlets without opening ductwork or changing equipment settings beyond the owner's instructions.

If you have temperature readings, record where and when they were taken. Avoid presenting readings from different conditions as a controlled comparison.

Ask for the assessment scope

Discuss how the technician will consider equipment operation, distribution and relevant room conditions. Do not close multiple vents or change controls based on a universal online fix; the appropriate response depends on the system.

Keep the findings and agreed work with the original observations. If the difference continues, that record supports a follow-up rather than another unrelated adjustment.
